Established in 1975 by the revision of the establishment ordinance of Seoul National University, the College of Social Sciences has undergone many changes and developments. The name and organization of the department, the relocation to 16 buildings in 1995, the establishment of research institutes for each field that have been in full swing since the 1990s, the establishment of cooperative courses and joint/linked majors for convergence education, and the expansion of education and research infrastructure were made. These changes are the result of the members’ choices that contain their aspirations and concerns, and have been a process that has achieved remarkable results. The ongoing construction of the Economic Innovation Center and the full-scale renovation of the 16 buildings will dramatically improve the education and research environment and provide a strong foundation for a new leap forward.

The College of Social Sciences is Korea’s leading educational and research institution in the field of social science, and has been recognized both Domestic and international for its outstanding educational and research capabilities. Until now, graduates of the College of Social Sciences have served as leaders in all areas of Korean society, leading the development of society, and making brilliant contributions to the international community. Currently, the College of Social Sciences is striving to innovate education and strengthen its research capabilities, rather than settling for achievements so far. Amid the rapid changes in the technological and economic paradigm and environmental ecology, the need for social scientific insights is emerging more than ever. Deep and new understanding of human-to-social and international relations is needed, and knowledge and insight are required to lead social change. The College of Social Sciences will constantly strive to fulfill its calling for contribution to society and humanity through its outstanding education and research.
